Oh my goodness! I hope I can do this. A little overwhelmed with technology, but here it goes!  Well I guess anything is possible, even catching fairies!

Its always been show time!

For years there has been an underground battle with in the TV industry, that very little people think about. In the 2007-08 prime-time Television season, females contained 43% of all characters, which was a slit increase from the 2006-07 prime-time Television season. If we take a look back to 1996-96 females in television where at 37%.  In the following years 2000-05 there had been a 42% increase of women working, writing, performing and producing TV shows. In any case, as females contain 51% of the U.S. populace, they still stay under-spoke to in prime time. Slowly but surely the industry is changing.  The most important thing is know how much women have influenced the TV industry.

Female characters were most likely to play parts in dramatizations and reality programs and less likely to play parts in comedies. About (45%) of female characters played parts in dramatizations and 45% played roles in reality programs. Just 10% of female characters showed up on comedies. Male characters were destined to play characters in dramatizations (51%), in reality programs (38%), and  comedies (11%).

Gender roles have also been one of the most talked about issues in the TV industry.  Many issues are rooted to the marketing of products and the writing of the characters.  Many of the roles played by females were not the true representation of the real word woman.

Here are some links that explore this issue further.

Beauty Is in The eye of The beholder.

Screen Shot 2013-10-04 at 4.48.46 PMIn todays world it seems to be that women are constantly being reminded about what is being considered beauty.  There are so many kinds of ads on television, magazines and even billboards that show false ideal images of women.  These ideas and elusive images affect men and women by giving them unrealistic expectations of what beauty really is.

Many studies have been done to show the effects of media on women today, and most of the results indicate that the media negatively affects self-image. Less research has been done specifically on the cosmetic industry and how it affects consumer’s self-image. female-face-shavingBased on the $7 million that is spent on cosmetics each year, it’s evident that the cosmetic industry influences consumers in some way. In other words we need to look at the people that are paying for these ads and ask they questions as to why they don’t make products that cater to all consumers.

1307632892152978One of the studies conducted found that images of women wearing makeup were judged to be healthier and more confident than the images of the same women without makeup. When wearing cosmetics women were also assigned greater earning potential and considered to have more prestigious jobs than when they were presented without makeup. This idea of thinking unfortunately still exists  today.  Many men and women in all kinds of industries are always being judged by their appearances and physic.

A lot of men and women have come to realize that a lot that they see on TV is all just an imaging, not real.  So the thought that comes out of some of the women in my life is beauty is in the eye of the beholder, its not something people should strive to be or look like.1307632908335436  Beauty is skin deep you could be the most beautiful looking person but be the worst person in the world.  blog41Beauty lies deep in action and behavior which reflects your person to others. One sad thing that kind of trapped us with these ideas of beauty is money, millions of people make millions of dollars all in the beauty industry, from hair dressers, make up artists and the companies that provide the products that are used. So we should really look at beauty as something that is skin deep and routed though the persons individuality and character

Not So TV Land!

This is a few of the new CW network

This is a few of the new CW network

A lot of TV to day has a started to create a good balance of male and female heroes, anti heroes, villains and anti villains .  New show like Arrow, The Flash, Modern Family and Fresh of the Boat just to mention a few.  These shows have shown grate deal of balance and improvement of developing more divers and dynamic characters.  Both men and women in these shows play such an important role in their respectable shows.

With a lot of the new shows on the CW network, we get to see some really strong male and female characters that play huge roles most of them are lead or support roles.  They all show the characters in stressful situations and we watch how they over come adversaries.  The one thing that is important in these shows is the amount of team work that is shown in each episode.  Even though the each character has their own strengths they always find the best and perfect way to balance each other.

For a show like Arrow, the super hero team of, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Girl, Speedy and Over watch they have a strong team dynamic of both female and male heroes.  I like that there is finally a super hero show with female heroes that make a difference and the younger viewers are learning that it doesn’t matter who or where you are, its important to be strong and stand up for what you believe in.

The CW is changing and for the better, shows like I-zombie is one of the kinds of shows that introduces an anti hero.  The main character is a Zombie eats brains and kicks bad guy ass!  She works in a mortuary and helps the police solve crimes and murders.  As the show develops you will see how much she changes from a shy zombie to brave zombie.

I have to say that people in my life today can be seen to resemble some of the characters in these shows.   Not to the extreme of being a zombie, but with straight and courage that is shown in their every day life.  The amount of work people put behind to help and support themselves and others.

I have to say someone in my family that reminds me of the Green Arrow is my Uncle, very head strong and straight to the point.  Arrow has very strong strong leadership skills and my uncles is the same he always finds a way to bring the family together and always has a plan of action that leaves everyone with a feeling a safety and relief.

I have a friend of that has a story similar to the story of Speedy the super heroin in Arrow.  Both of them had very difficult lives growing up, they had father issues and trying to find them selves in a world.  They one thing that unites these two people is there resilience and bravery.  They take on challenges head on with every bit of straight they have, over coming and achieving impossible goals.

Measure of A man

Week 2 Part 2

For thousands of years the men have been looked at or give a predestinate roll to play in the game of life.  Ideas and thoughts on how a man should be and act has infected people though out the word.  When life first started men where the hunters that ventured and brought food home.  Since people back in the day lived in small groups or colonies it was always the men that went out in to the wilderness.  And today that idea still lives on, pushing and driving society to live a certain way. Its time that we evolved and bettered ourselves for the worlds sake.  Man is in need for more understanding and overall understanding of equality.

I feel like its very important that we as a race understand that evolution is important for our growth as a world.  Getting over all the false ideals of human behavior is important and also go going further and growing spiritually.

Why should I care about health policy issues

Healthcare policy issues goes deeper than just a healthcare setting, it starts with a person like you and I. It starts with a person’s job, family, and sadly their income and street address will play a key role in what type of care they receive. “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any. (Mason, 2016)” As a nurse and a person who understands the struggle of the other side, “consumers and healthcare providers can benefit greatly from having nurses’ passion for holistic care, clinical insights and leadership influence on the policies that will help shape the resources that benefit the patient experience and our population’s health. (Sobolewsk, 2015)”

With the push for nurses to obtain a BSN as minimal educational requirements, with one of the main reasoning’s is to be able to take over the leadership role. While nurses should accept the push as a compliment to only better the profession as a whole.  They should take it one step further, and use the professional leadership skills that are second nature to many nurses and step up to make a difference in not only their profession, but their families live as well.  “Our nation is experiencing rapid change in healthcare delivery, and nurses can be the catalysts to making it more accessible and accountable, while emphasizing the importance of population health, from prevention to full rehabilitation,” explained Elizabeth Fildes, EdD, RN, CNE, CARN-AP, APHN-BC, DACACD, a professor in Chamberlain’s MSN Healthcare Policy Specialty Track”(Sobolewsk, 2015).
